In the Meadow We Can Build A Snowman (or bunches of them)!

Two years ago I got the kit for Lisa Bongean's Mini Warm Winter Blessings. After returning from my Winter Retreat earlier this month where we worked on two wool projects I asked myself why I hadn't stitched up this kit yet. So I have worked on it most evenings of late.
The blocks finish up at 4"x5 1/2".
I just need to sew the rows together, add the two borders and this will be ready to baste and quilt!

I ordered this kit when I attended Winter Retreat in January of 2013 with Lisa Bongean. It was my first experience with Wool applique and I learned from the master. Our project was actually two blocks from the larger version of Warm Winter Blessings, but I realized I wouldn't have anywhere to display a quilt that size, so after making those blocks I stopped and waited for the motivation to make the mini version.

This is one of the larger blocks I had made. I'm turning it into a pillow.

Continuing with the snowman theme, I made a new little ornament.
This is a free paper pieced pattern from Carol Doak's website that I reduced. DD#1 sent me this cool winter tree ornament and I made the snowman to go with it. I may make another one and face it in the opposite direction. You can click the photos to get a better view.

I don't have another snowman, but what about a snow-lamb?
My winter Lamb for All Seasons is ready for the wool to be stitched down. I am trying to decide how to embellish it a little more. If this is your first visit, this is based on Lisa Bongean's free pattern Old Glory Gatherings. This is the sixth lamb I have made for this series.

If you missed my last post I want to make sure you get the word. This beautiful snowflake pattern from last year's Row By Row Experience is now available on the designer's Etsy and Craftsy pages, as a  digital download for only $3.50.

Okay, let's get down to the winners of the drawing.
Karen Beigh (Log Cabin Quilter blog) is the happy winner of the 12 banner patterns.
Nancy Ratliff (Tattered Garden Quilting blog) is the runner up and will receive 3 other Buttermilk Basin patterns.
Congrats to the two of you, and thank you to Miss Stacy from Buttermilk Basin for contributing the banner patterns for this giveaway!!

  9. I love snowmen, especially Lisa's ... yours is fabulous! I've never worked with wool, but I'm thinking that Lisa's snowman project would have been a fabulous one to start on ... especially if given the opportunity to learn from the master. ;-)

  19. Congratulations to the lucky pattern winners!!! Janet, how cute that your lamb is wearing a wool stocking cap!!! I ordered the snowflake row by row from Annette of Quilted Sunshine and got a nice email thanking me. Told her where I saw it, too. Your daughters tree is a perfect match for your little snowman ornament. Love all things snowman!!!

  20. I am happy for the Lucky winners. I really didn't NEED any of these prizes. You made cute snowmen. YES, a Winter Lamb would be Perfect! Quilted Snowmen are the kind I like best. Warmer this week in my area, YEA!

  21. Very cute snowmen! I like wool work too but haven't touched it in months. It's been hot and windy here, not survivable weather for snowmen :)

  22. A super cute winter theme. Glad you got those project out to work on. Love the fabrics that are the background of your winter sheep. Lovely work as usual.

  23. I'm so glad you made your wooly & quilty snowmen with a blue background! I see them sometimes with red and it just doesn't seem like the right fit color-wise! I see the Carol Doak snowman was originally 3" so now I wanna know how MUCH you shrunk it? What a lot of cold/beautiful eye candy you've shared with us. Anymore sheep planned for your quilt series?

  26. Oh my gosh - I LOVE your snowmen!!!! And you did a beautiful job my friend :) It really does help to learn from the best, doesn't it? That's one thing I love about our guild, we bring in a national teacher every year, and I have learned so much from them! Your ornaments are of course drool-worthy! Now you need to make some even teensy-tinier ornaments to put on your little ornament tree .... yes, I'm the evil twin sister hahahaha!!!!

  30. Like the first few commenters, I too (first) read this post in the wee hours of the AM but thought I wasn't coherent enough to comment then. I absolutely am in love with your snow lamb! My dear Larry (who is follicly (sp?) challenged) refuses to wear a hat and I had to show him your precious little lambie who is smart enough to not want to get frost bitten ears. After hearing the weather report for the blizzard that is about to hit the northeast (Warwick NY, my former home town is set for 15-25"), I just had to get the pattern for the Warm Winter Blessings mini to commiserate with them. It's sunny and high 50's here in Omaha - not exactly snowman weather - so I have to use my imagination. PS: Larry is glad for the warmth so that I'm not nudging him about the hat. LOL

  32. Great collection of snow men/lambs! Your quilt came together quite fast. I always find it funny that we stall on projects that then seem to come together with the snap of a finger.
