I might just be able to sneak this under the wire before the clock strikes midnight. Here is my August monthly mini, for the mini making mayhem over with Wendy, The Constant Quilter.
In this photo you might be able to tell that I machine quilted around all the red in the pieced blocks. Then I hand quilted diagonal lines through the navy squares, using a dark blue quilting thread.
If you would like to make one of these little quilts, you will find the free pattern download in the Temecula Quilt Company post here. You know, you aren't limited to making it in red/white/blue. Fall colors or Christmas colors would be fun, too.

Next up is Chooky's Churn Dash SAL. I am just as pleased as punch that I have been keeping up with this. That is a rarity for me.
These are all the 9" blocks so far--including my two attempts at a triple churn dash block, with teeny 1" centers. I MIGHT try making one more of those, somewhere in the remaining dozen blocks. And then again, I might not. ;)
Hubby and I are prepping for our first ever cruise. I have never really wanted to go on a cruise, but hubby has. So if I am going to go, the destination would be Alaska--which it is. We are going with 8 friends from our community, and I am surprised at how much I am looking forward to it. I will be crossing a few things off my bucket list. I am signed up for shore excursions where I will be kayaking, zip lining (I do not like heights, but I am determined to power through this), snorkeling, and riding a gondola. I can't get a single soul in our group to snorkeling with me (they all think it will be too cold), but I am going anyway.

ReplyDeleteLove your patriotic mini! But I am especially in love with all those churn dash blocks! A cruise to Alaska is the only cruise I would ever sign up for. It would be fun to go back (I lived there 40-some years ago) and see how it has changed in the meantime. Enjoy your vacation!

It’s fantastic that you’re going to Alaska and I totally agree with you about cruises. If I were on the trip, I’d snorkel with you - I used to love scuba diving. Looking forward to some photos!

ReplyDeleteYour churn dash blocks are so fun, especially when looking closely at the fabric choices. The ones with even smaller dashes in the centers certainly attract the eye and add lots of interest.
I've never been interested in a cruise. I love being in small boats but get seasick in larger ones. Not sure how I would do on a cruise. You have some wonderful activities planned. Zip-lining sounds like so much fun but only because of the speed. I hope you have lots of fun!
Beautiful mini Janet, love it. Your churn dashes look amazing. Have a wonderful time on the cruise, I did one with a lovely friend a few years ago and we had a great time, the staff were wonderful. I did a dog sled excursion which I really enjoyed. We had fun exploring the towns we stopped at and the quilt shops were mind blowing!!

Love, love the RW&B mini! I’m a sucker for all things patriotic, so sign me up for that, yes please! Plus, Temecula Quilt Co. really does some cute little things, non? And I’ve *been* there! (That was a bucket list item for me!). Speaking of which, I’m so excited for you!! If I were ever to take a cruise (our feelings line up on this—no surprise), I’d want it to be to Alaska. ReplyDeleteEnjoy Alaska! That is the only cruise that I’ve been on and I enjoyed every moment. If you go to Skagway, be sure and visit the Rushin Tailor. It a wonderful quilt store with an endless supply of treasures.

As our cruise date draws closer, I am getting pretty excited for all the things we will be able to see and do. Unfortunately, or cruise does not take us to Skagway, but I am hoping that there will be a good quilt shop at one of our ports. I would love to find some Alaska specific fabric to work into a quilt.

ReplyDeleteI went on an Alaska cruise in 2019. It was wonderful!!! I hate the water and will not go out in my husband's little pleasure boat, but the big cruise ships are a different breed. I think you will enjoy it.
