I might just be able to sneak this under the wire before the clock strikes midnight. Here is my August monthly mini, for the mini making mayhem over with Wendy, The Constant Quilter.
This was from a pattern by Sheryl at Temecula Quilt Company. It is called Independence Day, and she released the free pattern on July 4th. I cut it out and sewed the top that very week, but I have been slower than molasses in January at getting this quilted and bound. Obviously not in time for summer, but just in time for Labor Day (after which I take down all the patriotic decor). In this photo you might be able to tell that I machine quilted around all the red in the pieced blocks. Then I hand quilted diagonal lines through the navy squares, using a dark blue quilting thread.
If you would like to make one of these little quilts, you will find the free pattern download in the Temecula Quilt Company post here. You know, you aren't limited to making it in red/white/blue. Fall colors or Christmas colors would be fun, too.
If you'd like to make it, go to the link above and download the pattern, and then leave a comment below if you would be interested in a die-cut kit to make this top in red/white/blue. I have an extra kit and would be happy to send it to someone.
Next up is Chooky's Churn Dash SAL. I am just as pleased as punch that I have been keeping up with this. That is a rarity for me.
These are all the 9" blocks so far--including my two attempts at a triple churn dash block, with teeny 1" centers. I MIGHT try making one more of those, somewhere in the remaining dozen blocks. And then again, I might not. ;)
Hubby and I are prepping for our first ever cruise. I have never really wanted to go on a cruise, but hubby has. So if I am going to go, the destination would be Alaska--which it is. We are going with 8 friends from our community, and I am surprised at how much I am looking forward to it. I will be crossing a few things off my bucket list. I am signed up for shore excursions where I will be kayaking, zip lining (I do not like heights, but I am determined to power through this), snorkeling, and riding a gondola. I can't get a single soul in our group to snorkeling with me (they all think it will be too cold), but I am going anyway.
That is all for now.
Until next time, be creative, and be kind!
Janet O.
Love the mini quilt and your churn dash blocks are stunning.
ReplyDeleteDaring to snorkel in Alaska! Cute mini. I love Patriotic quilts a lot. Churn Dash is a favorite block the tiny ones inside are adorable. Best of luck on the Ziplining.

ReplyDeleteOH fun!!! I have always wanted to go on a cruise...I am glad you get to go! I am loving your churn dash quilt, and your mini is absolutely darling.
ReplyDeleteOne inch? Seriously?? Oh, my; you have the patience of a saint. I love the TQC free patterns and sew alongs, I've done quite a few; yours is just SEW pretty! You will have the time of your life on your Alaskan cruise, you're going at the exact right time of year, too. Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little mini! Enjoy your trip!!
ReplyDeleteYour mini is so sweet. It fits right in with your other adorable patriotic quilts. The churn dash blocks continue to be beautiful with your churn within a churn sprinkled about. Have an awesome time on your cruise. We'll need photos!
ReplyDeleteJanet precioso tu mini !! me encantan los bloques churn dash
ReplyDeleteFelices vacaciones
I love your mini quilt!! And the churn dash with the 1 inch center is delightful!! Hope you have a wonderful time on the cruise! I have gone up the inland passage and it is spectacular!! I will be looking forward to your pictures!
ReplyDeleteLove your patriotic mini! But I am especially in love with all those churn dash blocks! A cruise to Alaska is the only cruise I would ever sign up for. It would be fun to go back (I lived there 40-some years ago) and see how it has changed in the meantime. Enjoy your vacation!
ReplyDeleteGreat mini and I love how your churn dash is coming along. The mini cd’s in the center of some of the blocks add so much extra design interest!! It’s fantastic that you’re going to Alaska and I totally agree with you about cruises. If I were on the trip, I’d snorkel with you - I used to love scuba diving. Looking forward to some photos!
ReplyDeleteHmm, not sure I would want to snorkel in Alaska, it does sound rather cold.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt progress.
Your new mini is gorgeous as usual Janet. I will have a look at the free download but it may be too tiny for me & my "inexperience". I have been watching some of the Churn Dash's appear in blogland & loving them - yours is wonderful. I am rather envious of your Alaska cruise - that sounds perfect. If I was on the boat I would certainly snorkel alongside you Janet. xx 😉
ReplyDeleteYou have a great collection of patriotic mini quilts, Janet, and this newest one fits so well with the others.
ReplyDeleteYour churn dash blocks are so fun, especially when looking closely at the fabric choices. The ones with even smaller dashes in the centers certainly attract the eye and add lots of interest.
I've never been interested in a cruise. I love being in small boats but get seasick in larger ones. Not sure how I would do on a cruise. You have some wonderful activities planned. Zip-lining sounds like so much fun but only because of the speed. I hope you have lots of fun!
Beautiful mini Janet, love it. Your churn dashes look amazing. Have a wonderful time on the cruise, I did one with a lovely friend a few years ago and we had a great time, the staff were wonderful. I did a dog sled excursion which I really enjoyed. We had fun exploring the towns we stopped at and the quilt shops were mind blowing!!
ReplyDeleteI love your mini sampler! Great colors. As typical, I thought about making this one but never got around to it. Sigh …
ReplyDeletethe blocks look great.......esp love the effort of the doubles and the triples......those are insane but so cool......
ReplyDeletethe mini quilt is lovely......red white and navy always looks great.....and love the sunset
Love, love the RW&B mini! I’m a sucker for all things patriotic, so sign me up for that, yes please! Plus, Temecula Quilt Co. really does some cute little things, non? And I’ve *been* there! (That was a bucket list item for me!). Speaking of which, I’m so excited for you!! If I were ever to take a cruise (our feelings line up on this—no surprise), I’d want it to be to Alaska. Have a blast and take lots of pictures to share!! As always, your sunset capture is spectacular. I’m going to text you a water sunrise. Isn’t God’s handiwork glorious?!? Hugs to you, my friend!! :)
ReplyDeleteAdorable collection of mini’s you’ve made, they’re so cute on the stand together. Looking forward to seeing if there’s one more triple churn dash, it’s quite a challenge and an accomplishment. Having trouble logging into google so email just in case ;) —(Rabbitcreekquilter@hotmail.com)
ReplyDeleteYour little mini will fit in nicely with those other gems! I hope you have a blast on your cruise--how fun to go with a group of friends. Take care and have fun crossing off those adventures on your bucket list!
ReplyDeleteLove both your projects! I saved the TQC pattern for ''someday". Your C Dashes are lovely.
ReplyDeleteAh. It’s because I didn’t switch to “View web version” from the chrome browser app on my phone. It didn’t give me the opportunity to do be me until I switched! Now I know!! 🤗💖
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Alaska! That is the only cruise that I’ve been on and I enjoyed every moment. If you go to Skagway, be sure and visit the Rushin Tailor. It a wonderful quilt store with an endless supply of treasures.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if you will see this, Judy. You are a no-reply comment, so I can't respond directly. As our cruise date draws closer, I am getting pretty excited for all the things we will be able to see and do. Unfortunately, or cruise does not take us to Skagway, but I am hoping that there will be a good quilt shop at one of our ports. I would love to find some Alaska specific fabric to work into a quilt.
DeleteThat mini quilt is as cute as all get out!
ReplyDeleteI might have to make one myself! How did I miss that pattern?
WOW!! Alaska on a cruise!! How cool!! Can I go with you as your maid? And, I'll go snorkeling with you!! Love your Churn Dash SAL and your August mini is cute as a bug!!
ReplyDeleteGood for you, "trying new things" and those exciting plans for the cruise - especiall nice you are going with friends. Love the photo at the end, as well as the quilts. Keep on keepin' on!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful mini. Looks like lots of us were feeling patriotic in August. The Alaska cruise sounds fabulous. I hope you have a great time. Your churn dash is great too. You have a great balance of the tiny blocks with the big ones. It draws you in to see them more carefully.
ReplyDeleteI went on an Alaska cruise in 2019. It was wonderful!!! I hate the water and will not go out in my husband's little pleasure boat, but the big cruise ships are a different breed. I think you will enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet RW&B little mini. It is perfect for your collection. It looks like a nice pattern to have to make a little dolly quilt.
ReplyDeleteYour churn dashes are just marvelous. I love all the colors :)
Oh! Alaska is gorgeous and I know you'll have lots a great adventures. Which line are you going on? Hanna and I went on Holland. How exciting!!!
Absolutely love your July mini and the cute little holder with even more delightful minis! Congrats on keeping up with your churn dash blocks. I do like the double ones with the tiny centers :) I hope you enjoy your Alaskan cruise!
ReplyDeleteI am always amazing by your small piecing! I admire your work.
