May I Have Your Attention, Please?

If you commented on my last post and DID NOT get a reply from me it is because your profile has the "noreply" setting I warned about. I cannot contact you and could not include you in the giveaway. There were many of you this time around and it makes me sad to not be able to respond to your questions or include you in the drawing. I am not ignoring you, I just have no way to contact you until you change your profile settings. I tried to put out a message to you beneath your comment on the last post, but unless you check back (only one of you did) that isn't very effective. I don't want you left out, but there isn't much else that can be done without you fixing your setting. If you don't know how, send me a comment WITH your email address and I can direct you to an instructive post--or you can Google it. : )

That said, I will name the winner at the end of this post. They have already been notified.

On Friday I visited my favorite "over the mountain pass" quilt shop, and look what they had.
"What is it?" you may ask.

It is a "primitive" letter holder.
But doesn't it do a sweet job of holding little quilts?

And it looks great sitting next to the clip, which I also got at the same shop on my birthday last year.
You can switch out the quilt in the clip in a heartbeat.

Now I know you can't all get to the quilt shop over the mountain pass (wish you could, you would love it), so I found a couple of places they can be ordered. If you go here you have to order two, so plan on one as a gift, or find a quilting buddy that wants the other one (or someone with a messy desk). Shipping on this site is free. The "per item" price will be cheaper on this deal.

Or you can go here and order just one. The shipping is not free, but it is calculated by where you are, so I can't say what that will cost you.

I will say they cost less at the quilt shop over the mountain, but the travel expense might be prohibitive for some of you. : )

There are also a couple available on ebay at a great price, as of this writing.

I got the baby sister of my giveaway quilt all finished up. You can see it in the front of the repurposed letter holder, above. And here it is with its big sister.

The patriotic bowl fillers I had just assembled in my last post are now stuffed and stitched and thrown in a bowl with a few others.
I have a large wooden tray that needs staining and then I can put these in it with a few other filler items. Just need to get out the messy stuff to do the staining job.

My little Christmas wool applique quilt is done. This was made using 9 of the 12 patterns from last year's Attic Heirlooms Ornament Of the Month. Obviously mine aren't ornaments.
Let this quilt be a lesson to you not to quilt tired.  My quilting on the sashing is very wobbly, but I was determined to finish, no matter the hour. I am preferring to call the quilting "whimsical".
All of the cottons used in this little quilt are from thrift store shirts and much of the wools were also felted from thrift store clothing.

And where do you photograph a Christmas quilt in May?
In the Christmas corner of your sewing room, of course.

Now for the winner--Denise (Count it *all* joy blog) was the second to the last comment, just before I closed the drawing, and she won. See, it can be a good thing to come late to the party. We switched out the two Primitive Gatherings Snowman patterns for something more Denise's style (can you say "pumpkins"?), so if you are interested in just those two Snowman patterns, say so in your comment (and be sure you have your email address included!!!!) and I will draw a name for those next time.

Until then,
Janet O.

Drawing is now closed.

  3. Such fun ideas for quilt displays! I had seen a real neat one over at Sweet P's blog... it's a magazine rack that she draped a quilt over the back and then filled the front with little seasonal pillows! Fun stuff! :-)

  4. I think all of my quilting could be classified as "whimsical"! I don't see a speck of wobbliness in your sashings. Isn't it wonderful to find perfect fabrics for our creations at the thrift stores. I just love when that happens, all too rarely in these parts.

  6. Love snowmen, especially when they originate at Primitive Gatherings. The letter holder is very cool, and just perfect for your stack of minis. Great find, and thanks for links to more.

  7. Congrats to Denise! She is a Lucky Blogger! I'm home from my long ride and would like the snowmen. I saw Primitive Gatherings at Quilt Market but didn't buy anything there.

  8. I've totally enjoyed some catch up reading of your last few posts, Janet. Congratulations on your 5 years of blogging - it's been 5 years of wonderful eyecandy and inspiration for us all to enjoy. Those little holders look a great idea for those who have an excess of minis to display. And this latest Christmas quilt is very cute - the applique pops so much on it too, I thought they were buttons you had stitched on!

  11. I never would have thought of a letter holder for a quilt display but it's absolutely perfect and it looks like the quilts are gently folded so no creases :) Congrats Denise!!

  12. Yay!!!! Thank you so much!! I can't wait to start working on that pumpkin table topper!! :)

It's weird....I've had more than normal commenters that either (1) don't come to email (because they're aol or yahoo addresses) or are google accounts and don't show the email address or blog info. Makes me sad.

I love the prim letter holder as a mini quilt rack--how clever!! If Christmas wasn't still taking up my *every* corner (hahahaha!), I might could find a spot to put one out on display!

And please don't put my name in the drawing....I've already been blessed by you! :)

  17. The letter holder is a very clever idea and so appropriate for your minis. Whimsical or organic are the terms I use when things are slightly off. The baby sister quilt really looks like a little sibling. I like how you imply changed the orientation. You're so clever! And I do mean it!

  23. I really like those snowman patterns.

Getting hold of Primitive Gatherings patterns is not so easy here in the UK. I keep a list of items to look out for when visiting the US and Primitive Gatherings stuff (fabric and patterns) is always on there somewhere.

    Congratulations on 5 years!

  32. How smart for your to have a Christmas corner all set up for the photo session. Thanks for the heads up on the letter holder. I just got one from Ebay. I have the clip but keep forgetting to bring it to my office. I like to surround myself with quilts at work. I pet them when I need a break.

  33. I know how much Denise loves pumpkins!! Good for her!! Using the file folder holder is such a clever way to display your quilts!!! Trying for snowmen again! They are my favorite decoration on quilts next to realistic maple leaves. Pouring rain here....1.24" in 40 minutes!!!! Great quilting weather!

  36. Looks like you did it again, ms Janet. Your display of quilts in the letter holder is an awesome job. They all look lovely displayed in a row. Good Job. I am sure that all your readers will be sending away for that rack, like so many had to have your display of the ruler. Don't stop coming up with ideas, they have all been super.
Sorry I missed out on the sweet giveaway, I usually never miss your blog, but ooops I did. We are staying busy and tomorrow we will be on our way for the weekend. God Bless, Betty

  37. I'm thinking you're being too hard on yourself about the quilting when tired. I think it looks great. I would have never guessed you used thrift store finds for the fabrics. They look awesome. I've never tried felting wool.
I would love a chance at the patterns. I have a couple charm packs of Snowman Gatherings fabric that I need to use.

  38. I always love to see how you display your pieces. so creative! The letter holder is great and the clip idea is brilliant. I love your little Christmas tree and finished Christmas Quilt. The binding is so so cute!!!
Lori - at humble quilts has a great button on how to change non-reply settings. I've used it at my blog.

  39. Love how you are displaying the little quilts. What a wonderful idea.

  40. The baby sister quilt is almost as cute as it's sibling, however I have to admit I am partial to those gorgeous feathers in the border of Big Sis :*). And what a cute idea for the letter holder!!! You have found so many cute ways to display your small quilts - it must look like a quilter's wonderland in your home! You know how much I love snowmen, but it would be forever before I could do anything with them, so don't put my name in the pot. Not that I would win mind you, becuase I don't have the luck of Denise LOL!!!!

  42. You call the quilting on your appliqued Christmas quilt "whimsical." You see whimsy, I see perfection! Might you be too hard on yourself, Janet?

Your sister quilts are both beautiful and what a great way to display small quilts using the letter holder.

  51. I know I'm a 'no reply blogger' and I've done everything but stand on my head while typing to make it change but none of the 'fixes' given to me by other bloggers work. I try to compensate by putting my email address in my comments. Maybe if that works for you, I'll get a chance to win those leftovers that 'Neesy swapped for pumpkins! Great blog and what a generous giver you are; her gifts are amazing!
