In The Works

I didn't have a chance to sew all week, but I managed a little time Saturday night. These are the projects currently "in the works"--at least the ones that I can show. Holidays are coming, you know.
Faithful
This is the beginning of my version of Lori's (Humble Quilts blog) most recent QAL. Recognize the center block? I deconstructed its previous setting. I'm starting to wonder if adding that outer row of HSTs will overpower the compass in the center. Maybe this will be the end, as well as the beginning, of this little quilt. I'll have to ponder that one.

Crabapples (aka It's So Vermonty)--Bonnie Hunter pattern from Adventures With Leaders and Enders.
I only stitched up one more block, but during the week I had purchased a green, leaf print batik and had cut the setting triangles. What do you think? The greens in the tree blocks are brighter, but I don't know that it matters that much.

Pineapple ornaments
I put borders on three ornaments that I had stitched up last month. I had finally picked out the paper foundations earlier this week (I guess I was hoping the paper foundation removal fairies would find my home). When the backs are on and they are stuffed, they will finish at 2 1/2 inches.
After these three are completed, I have 8 more to make for DD#2's fundraising booth at a craft fair Thanksgiving weekend.

Here are the completed ones DD#1 and I have made so far, adorning my little sewing room tree. I think we will need a bigger tree. : )
For those of you accustomed to my rather wordy posts, don't go into shock or anything, but that's all for now!
Until next time,
Janet O.

  1. WOW Janet. Is the center of Lori's little quilt-a-long only 6"?? That compass? It's amazing! And I just love your colors of Bonnie's trees. You may not have sewn much during the week but you sure look like you have gotten LOTS done!

  2. The compass block is stunning... and I don't think the HSTs overpower the center at all. The compass seems to be rising out of the center. Beautiful fabrics... esp the black stripe.

I'm loving those crab apple trees... I had to go look up the pattern the last time you posted. I also like those mini pineapple ornaments... you are becoming my go-to source for future projects!

  3. What do you use for hangers for your ornaments? I have made some and have used ribbon, jute, etc. I am looking for a nice, thick gold "string" but thicker than a string, you know?

  4. I LOVE your "Lori's" quilt - I think the border is perfect - and now overpowering. Of course, if it is bothering you that much, I think you have my address, you could just send it here! Lol. Your trees are really coming along and the border fabric looks great with them. Great job on those pineapples! I've been busy making more pin cushions for the show this weekend.

  5. A little shocked yes - but LOVE everything about what you have posted!!! That compass block is beautiful! I agree that you might have to play/ponder about the final or no additions. I think the muted green is perfect for the setting triangles - a similar green would have detracted from the crabapples and I think that it frames the quilt very nicely!! And as usual, I'm in awe about the pineapples!! SOOOOOOOO cute!!

Blessings and hugs - a fun fall day to you!!

  8. I think you should add another row of HST. I don't think it will overpower it. It is lovely!!
I love seeing what you are working on. :)

  9. Your Faithful is very cute!! It looks kinda enough now without the next rows but it will be interesting to see how it does hold up to more borders..? I think your setting triangles work too, letting the trees stand out. Of course as usual, I love your little ornaments!!! I do need to try some one day :-)

  11. I think the green batik for your setting triangles is a perfect choice - it reminds me of a forest's carpet of fallen leaves - lovely! I kinda wish I had made my own version of Lori's quilt, but too many other projects going on right now.

  14. I think the green setting triangles is a great choice, it picks up the darker greens in the trees.
I always love seeing your pineapple ornaments.

  19. Hi Janet,
I like the setting triangle fabric. Will you try to add in a little blue into a tree? Make no changes to Faithful...looks terrific! Sandi

  22. Your Vermonty top is looking wonderful! I think that the slightly duller green in the setting triangles helps to make the center blocks pop. Your little ornaments are so dear and I'm proud to own one; thank you again!!!!

  25. For only a little time to sew, I think you accomplished quite a lot! I do like the contrast in the greens for your Vermonty quilt - it makes the tree green pop.

  26. I l.o.v.e your Faithful - stunning. I do hope you've tried adding to it.

I like the green batik edges for your bright trees; it supports them very well without calling attention to itself.

  27. Oh. My. Goodness. Your crabapple project is *awesome*! I love the bright colors in this -- it made me *smile*! It's name, "It's So Vermonty" is just perfect for it! :)

  28. Oh you know I love your medallion quilt - such a bold color statement, and your compass looks absolutely perfect! I like the green setting for Vermonty. It looks very "foresty", just the ticket for this amazing quilt. And I think the lighter blocks will sparkle nicely; I really don't think you would want a brighter background - it would fight with the blocks for attention. And of course I'm totally smitten with your little ornaments - so dang CUTE!!!!
