Doing A Little Sewing Along

First off, Cheri's Simply Sweet little SAL. I have such a hard time resisting her little SALs. The colors shown here are pretty accurate. I purposely wanted mine to have a dark look. I used up the last piece of a favorite red (yes, Julie, THAT red), and I included some of the scraps from the Homestead Hearth scrap bag I ordered after Kathie shared this marvelous source with us. (I had to laugh when I looked up Homestead Hearth to make this link. Since Kathie blogged about them they are now saying there will be a 3 to 4 week delay in getting a scrap bag. They must have been swamped with orders.)

Next up, we have the center of Lori's little Abundance SAL. I'm trying to choose fabrics that make this look aged. Today Lori is going to post the next part. I really like it so far.

I am also trying to get the rows of my Barrister's SAL blocks put together. I've shown it on the design wall before. I will wait until it is all sewn up before posting it again.                                                                                                       And through it all, Easy Street parts are providing my leader/enders. I have all of the pieces cut out. Here they are on design boards, stacked in my sewing room, waiting to be sewn together. When I have more blocks actually assembled I will share the effect.

Finally, I am working on my snowman blocks from the Lisa Bongean's class. I made up a second snowman block today. We received the two blocks on the right in our kit, along with the entire pattern. Since I ordered the smaller size quilt kit after the class, I am just going to make a wall hanging or something, out of these three blocks. I still have some stitching to do on the third block--lots of snowflakes.

And speaking of warm winter blessings, we have actually stayed above zero degrees for a full 24 hours. We haven't done that in a long time!Until next time,
Janet O.

  2. Both SALs are darling. I'm going to do Lori's - maybe I'll pick out the fabrics today. We just got home and the house is a disaster area. Spent all day yesterday washing clothes. I managed to get in a little sewing too. It's so good to be home and have my "big" sewing machine again! Yesterday I received my scrap bag from Homestead Hearth. It is wonderful - and all the fabrics are new to me! All your projects look great and you are getting a lot accomplished!

  8. You have a lot of quilt projects in the works. What are your design boards made from? And please show us one individually. I would like to see how you work and keep track of what you are doing.
I like the fabrics you are using for Lori-s sew-along.

  10. Wow! You're having so much fun! Your fabric choices are great. The fabrics for the Abundance SAL really work well together. I like how you're using the leaders and enders technique to do double sewing. I love doing extreme sewing too!

  11. Great fabric choices for the SALs. Love how you use those design boards. I'd probably knock them over! Your snowmen are so sweet. We think it is cold here and it is in the 20's. Can't imagine sub zero.

  12. Such a rich combination of fabrics in your SAL quilt. And really like your version of the Abundance block. That chocolate brown fabric is a great choice!!
Supposed to warm up today - maybe reach 10. The nights have been really cold 20 below which makes me thankful for the pile of quilts available in this house :o)

    Stay warm & happy stitching.

  15. Oh no!!! NO MORE of THAT red? Sad...but, your little quilt is adorable, and I think I own all of those fabrics (shocking!). Your abundance looks great and of course, I'm chuckling about your stripes all going the same direction - you know if it were mine they would be all different! Your little snowmen blocks look great - I'm still just so happy that you love wool now!!

As for the weather - all I can say is that I am glad you are the one living there in sub zero temps and not me! I'd die, and die quickly! LOL!!!

  21. You're doing a great job with making your blocks/quilts look antique-y! So lovely...

It's cold here too but NOTHING like what you've been experiencing!

  23. I love every project in your post! Great fabrics in the SAL quilt. Same goes for the Abundance block... it's one of my favorites out there. It has been so cold here, and the wind chill factor doesn't help!

  24. Fun to see you posting more SAL projects. I haven't been sewing much-Family has all gone home now. Hope to get some sewing done tomorrow.

  25. I'm having to live SAL's vicariously this year...love how yours are coming along!

  26. You've been busy! You always have plenty of inspiration to spur me on. Love your dark interpretation of Cheri's quilt along, especially the accent borders and using a different color for the setting triangles. Lookin' forward to seeing your little snowmen!

  27. Janet, I always just love your projects. Your little quilts are so cute and you find the greatest sew alongs. I seem to remember having a piece of that red fabric and am trying to remember what it was and if I still have any of it. Now since I said I wasn't going to start anything new this year until I finish something, I'm just going to click your links and take a look at the SALs...just a little look.

  28. I actually like your version of Cheri's quilt better than the original Janet. Good job!

  29. You are one busy girl, and I love it---however, there is just no way for me to keep up with you and JulieK. :D Your goodies are all lovely. (I really really like you Cheri little quilt) I'm still poking along over here in Tennessee, dealing with ice and power outages, fires and hounds. LOL I did just turn on the sewing machine because the soup is made and the power is still on so I'll be sewing a bit if you need me. :D

  30. LoL I thought maybe you finished three full size quilts since your last post ;-)
    Sweet projects you have going.
    Stay warm!!

  31. I love your snowmen! The 2nd day above freezing here and the snow is almost all melted. Perhaps I should start a snowman quilt before the spring arrives. Or maybe just keep after my stack of UFO's.

  32. Janet, I love the look of these blocks set on point. I have a stack from a swap I did last year ... I was going to set them in a stepping stones setting, but I may play around with them on point, now! I may have to do further investigating in those QALs/SALs! Your snowmen are looking darling, too!! :)

  33. nice snowmen! and weather wise we hit 25 today, that's a heat wave of late....but we are really waiting for wednesday...back to the 40s...

  34. Lori's Little Abundance block does look aged; you pulled off the affect well. All the pieces of Easy Street as leaders and enders...looks like you are able to keep track but my I'd think that would be difficult. We have more cold in San Diego this weekend coming your way... Have a great week Janet! Sandi

  35. You inspire me as always! If I still lived in Panguitch, I would drive up and spend a day sewing with you! So glad you are joining the Rancher's Daughter...partially! I think that's a fantastic idea actually. Especially with everything else you are doing.

  36. Your projects are all lovely, and most are ones that I've started or wish I had. Your posts always remind me of things I need to keep working on, or ones to add to yet another list.
After a sheeting of ice all day Sunday, we're having a couple days of warmup, and then back below zero for a day or so. I HATE WINTER!
Stay warm. Keep that machine stitching!
BTW -- what is the little green and brown figure in your favicon? A mountain? They've fun to add, I enjoy the variety here and there, but they're so small. (We should protest, demanding larger favicons.)
