My new header photo is something I have ready to quilt, but can't decide on a pattern.
It is going to go under my German Pyramid Nativity, which is one of my favorite Christmas decorations and I felt it was time it rested on something grander than a red and green cloth napkin. I made this little topper using the bonus HSTs that are accumulating from the Rocky Mountain Christmas Quilt in my previous post. I really like it, but as I mentioned above, I can't decide how to quilt it.
And speaking of quilting, my last two posts have shown a little table topper that I made as a Thanksgiving hostess gift. I didn't like my quilting job (it was my first), so I was making another one to swap for it. Well, here it is.
The quilting on the border of this one turned out so much better, IMHO. I think if you click to enlarge the photo you can still see the chalked grid on one side. I used it to help me space the leaves evenly, and then I used a less contrasting thread. I quilted the rest of it the same as the first--which you can see here. I think you can tell that this one makes me much happier.
Now for the part you have all been waiting for--the winner of my Bloggerversary giveaway is Carla! I have already emailed her for her snail mail address. She actually doesn't live terribly far from the valley I call home, but we have never met. We hope to change that someday.
Maybe you didn't know that I edited my last post to include a gift of my handcrafted holiday soap to another person, so Ruth, of Country Log Cabin, that person is you. I will need your snail mail as well.
Congratulations to you both!
That does it for now. Hope you are making time to enjoy the Christmas season!

ReplyDeletenice plaid star quilt, good luck quilting it!
Kathie
OOOOO, you did a really good job on that border! Did you use chalk to outline, then just quilt along the lines? I've done free-motion quilting, but always random looks and such, never a planned pattern. You make me think about trying it!
ReplyDeleteWVL Maricar. The vehicle used to deliver tubs of fake butter.
The table topper is great!! You are becoming a pro!!! Love the plaid stars - of course what stars do I not love? lol The German Pyramid Nativity is beautiful!!! Congrats to the winners.
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Congrats to the lucky winners. Great job, Janet with your FMQ. Really like the leaves.
ReplyDeleteThat Nativity set is just awesome. I have never seen any quite like it. Your machine quilting is wonderful, and I liked the other leaf border, too. As for quilting on the stars....I am stuck on quilting that paisley design. I think the hardest part of it is to decide on a design. The stars will be nice under your Nativity.
ReplyDeleteQuilt some stars on your Stars. I guess I'll have to add that book to my list. Congrats to the Winners. I'm just waiting to start the real decorating...my Nativities go up before my Tree. I won't be putting them all out this year. it takes too long to put them all away, I have over 100, counting the Nativity Ornaments. Looking forward to tonight's Broadcast of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! Just one more time I lived in UTAH. I'd love to go and Listen to them LIVE more often.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Carla.
ReplyDeleteI love your tablerunners. Is your autumn one hand quilted or machine quilted? What a lucky hostess to receive such a wonderful gift.
Hugs
Oh oh oh I absolutely LOVE them both!!! The stars and the runner---love your color choices and how you set them together!! Just LOVE them!!!
ReplyDeletevery pretty janet; love those plaids! and your decoration is beautiful, a real heirloom
ReplyDeleteThe quilting looks good on the table runner. I like the fabrics you used for it. It would look good at my house.
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo....LOVE the new header and yes, the quandary of how to quilt it!
ReplyDeleteYour second 're-do' looks wonderful! Your quilted border is amazing, VERY attractive! Darn, I wouldn't swap!!! ha!
What a beautiful decoration!
ReplyDeleteI love your little quilts, the quilting is great!
Congratualtions to Carla and her win ;- )
Congrats to the winners.
ReplyDeleteYour quilting is fabulous. It didn't take long for you to get wonderful results. I think the table topper just needs straight line quilting but that probably seems boring to you at this point!
Love your new header photo...and the quilting is awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh Janet, Thank You! Thank You! I can't even tell you how excited I am to win your giveaway. I feel like a little kid at
ReplyDeleteChristmas time! I bet it feels good to have a project completed with your bonus HSTs. Your German Pyramid Nativity is very interesting. Does the propeller symbolize something? I think I do like the second little table topper a titch better, I like the border quilted with matching thread but your quilting looks great on both. Thank You again for the wonderful gift.
So pretty!!! I too have one of those German pieces (though not as large as yours). My guys used to be fascinated with how the candle heat turned it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Carla and Ruth!!
ReplyDeleteLove both of your runners and the candle nativity is amazing! Yes, it needs something grand to set on.
Janet, I've had an exciting morning! My package arrived and I just had to take a few moments to enjoy the book and lay each of the little pieces of fabric out...and dream! Thank You!
ReplyDeleteI meant to leave a comment regarding the previous post. I've always felt that scrap quilts are NOT random quilts. So, regarding your smoky mountain quilt, I'm with you. If it doesn't feel right, change it.
