My intentions were good. I was going to have the drawing for the blog-iversary giveaway in my last post before July ended. With July including visiting family, moving-in family, and a family reunion campout to close out the month, that post never happened. Now hubby and I are preparing to leave on another adventure, and I have literally not taken a stitch by machine or hand since my last post on the first of July.
But I did finally put together the items for the giveaway, and here is what the winner will receive.
As usual, there are a few bars of my handcrafted soap. I've also included the recent small finish from my guild's challenge to make a quilt a month from Pam Buda's book, "Vintage Patchwork". This one is named after the Thomas Hardy classic, "Tess of the d'Urbervilles". I've added a pack of my favorite pins for working with small pieces--but they work great on large pieces, too. And finally, in celebration of the United States of America's 250th anniversary, I've thrown in a charm pack of a patriotic line from Primitive Gatherings. (If someone from outside the USA had won, I had a backup charm pack.)
I have drawn the name and notified the winner, but will not announce their name until I have confirmed that they wanted to participate.
The only other thing remotely related to quilting is the fact that I got a new acrylic sewing machine extension table for my domestic machine, and I am very pleased with it.
I got the old extension table when I began learning to FM quilt, not long after I started blogging. I have a Pfaff, and I bought the table through my local Pfaff dealer. It has served me well until the last year or so. The plastic legs screw up and down to adjust the height of the table to match your sewing machine height. But the vibration as you sew does make them a bit "self-adjusting". I could live with that, but then the plastic legs broke off somewhere along the threaded portion, so they would no longer screw up and down.
I was folding pieces of thick fabric or cardboard to place underneath and bring it to height. But the leg would eventually slip off whatever I used to raise it, or just fall out of place, due to the threads on the plastic legs not connecting up, and the table would frequently tip without warning.
I'd had enough. I couldn't go to the local Pfaff dealer, because they had closed down a few years ago. I discovered that Missouri Star Quilt Co. works with "Sew Steady" to provide extension tables that fit your machine. You give them the brand and model number, along with a couple of measurements, and they do the rest. It is custom work, so it takes a little time, but I am so pleased with the results. (You can see the reflection of my phone and hands in the tabletop, below.)
I will check back in when we return from our adventure. I will need to hit the ground running to get projects ready for our first guild meeting of the season (we always take summers off). So I might even have some stitching to share.
Someone is going to receive an amazing gift from you. Lovely flowers and those extension tables are very useful.
ReplyDeleteYou could tape a piece of paper behind the ruler markings so they would show up…Jill in Cochrane, AB
ReplyDeleteI have purchased one of the Sew Steady table extensions for my sewing machine and i love it. Yes, it did take a little while to be delivered...but it fit perfectly and it really makes a difference. The table I sew on is an off white so I do see the markings clearly. I love your flower bouquets. What a nice surprise to receive each month. Your sunset photo is amazing; what a wonderful view. Enjoy your next adventure. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteI have had a Sew Steady table for years and just love it! I am always tucking things under it so it expands the space I can use close to my machine. Enjoy your travels!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunset! And what an awesome package someone will receive. Thank you for sharing with us in your wonderful blog!
ReplyDeletea perfect giveaway! such beautiful bouquets and a really thoughtful gift. i was given a sew steady acrylic table for my FW but it fits my vintage singer as well...and i agree about the ruler markings...not much use...have a wonderful adventure!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you could find that tabletop to fit your machine. I'm sure it will make a big difference when you have a chance to sit down and do some long term sewing. Have a wonderful adventure.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful header photo and a gorgeous sunset! The beauty of creation never disappoints.
ReplyDeleteThe celebration gifts are lovely. Especially the quilt made by you. You are going to enjoy the Sew Steady table. I have a couple and they have lasted probably twenty years. I uncovered mine today. I'm taking my sewing room back from the cats :-) They are well settled in and I figured out how to move them out...at least a little bit to make room to sew again. Yay!
Have a wonderful adventure!
Excellent post, Janet! Thank you for sharing! Gladi Porsche
ReplyDeleteIt is handy to be able to see your little storage area under the extension table. Perhaps a white tablecloth on the sewing table might solve the issue of invisible lines?
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to see your post and know that you're doing well despite the wildfires raging all over the west. And having adventures too! I've heard great things about the Sew Steady table, hoping you will enjoy yours. I was so happy to be able to get the Janome table for my machine all those years ago, it's held up well. Life has slowed big time since early this spring with health issues plaguing DH and myself. The summer months have been better thankfully. Blessings to you and looking forward to hearing about your latest adventure when you return.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tremendous gift! And the flowers are beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteYour sunsets never cease to amaze me! You are such a great photographer too. I have a Sew Steady table from years ago and it still works fine. I sometimes use it for a machine that it was not made for but still works in a pinch. Your gift to the winner of your blog anniversary should be over the moon with such a nice gift. Back weeks ago, I thought about who might of won, but got busy and did not remember to check again, since it knew it wasn't me.! lol.. Have a wonderful adventure and be safe.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway, Janet, and the flowers from your daughter are gorgeous. As always, your sunsets are amazing! The entire sky looks like it's on fire. Enjoy your upcoming adventure!
