| This basket in the photo corrals the little quilts that are usually decorating my home, but must be moved to make way for holiday decorations. So they found a home in the corner of my sewing room until all of the end-of-year seasonal stuff is over. |
My little thimble quilt is finished. I'm calling it "Busy Little Thimbles."
This is made from some fabrics I received from Cyndi of Busy Thimble blog and quilt shop, after I had visited her shop in Maine back in August. It is a nice little reminder of a wonderful visit to Cyndi's delightful shop!
I used a clamshell ruler on Gidget to do the quilting. Shows up better on the back.
Finished up the stitching on my version of Buttermilk Basin's Mystery BOM for October. I had decided early on that my signature on each block would be a little button. I was hard pressed to come up with a place to put a button on this block, until I decided to add the bat. Now he has a little round button body. : )
And I'm not sure how this happened, but I spent a good part of Saturday evening cutting. I will be making my very first red/white quilt. I actually prefer blue and white, but in 2017 our state quilt guild is celebrating it's 40th (Ruby) anniversary and they are sponsoring a red/white quilt show to travel the state that year. The only "judging" will be a viewer's choice. Sounds very non-intimidating, so I thought it might be fun to participate in the mini division.
This mess you see on the design board will eventually be turned into a bunch of these little blocks.It is amazing how much more quickly these blocks can go together when you are only using two fabrics. You can actually strip piece, unlike when I made my Burgoyne Strikes Gold scrappy version.
BTW, I am over halfway finished binding the Floating Foxes!!

ReplyDeleteYour little tumbler/thimble quilt looks like it would be perfectly at home covering an old-fashioned dolly. So sweet. Your new Burgoyne quilt will be very pretty, though after working on Strikes Gold I can see how you would be itching to use more colors. That little quilt is such a gem!

These are so lovely and interesting. Great ideas for your buttons. Your red and white quilt will be a wonderful addition to the quilt show. I love the Burgoyne Strikes Gold. It is strikingly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour red and white mini is going to be so cute and I love your little additions to the Buttermilk Basin block. I have my Pocket Patchwork block laid out but haven't sewn it yet--I better recheck it just in case--I can see that would be easy to switch it around!
ReplyDeleteYour corralled quilts look great all together in the basket. The clam shell quilting has the perfect feel for all those wonderful repro fabrics you used for the mini tumblers. Then, of course, your red and white Burgoyne is going to be stunning. It's hard for people to work with just two colors, but it will be well worth it when you're done.

ReplyDeleteThe clamshells look lovely! I don't know how you still have fingers, working that small:). Love your "mistake" quilt along and woolie with the bat--how clever to include a signature idea. After green, red is my favorite color--I had no idea the 300 pieces you were cutting were for another spectacular mini! ROFL at your strip piecing shortcut with minuscule pieces. It will be a stunner and I won't doubt its popularity!

ReplyDeleteThe red and white block for the Ruby Celebration looks so cute. TOO tiny for me. You have a lot of time to make it. I can't wait to see more. I would make an Ocean waves quilt if I made a red and white quilt for that.
ReplyDeleteI made the same boo boo on my "Tucker" I haven't sewn it yet though. You will see it on my Blog in the AM. I made another error when I forgot to look at the diagram I drew. It's all fixable! I like the Star you have, not necessarily 'wrong' just different. The thimbles are darling. Great use of the Basket, I'll be looking for a way to use a basket for my extra quilts somehow. My closet and racks are over-flowing.

That is going to be one spectacular quilt when you're done, and I can't wait to see it. What size are your tumblers? I like how you quilted that and will have to file that away when it comes time to quilt mine.

ReplyDeleteA wave of inspiration always washes over me when I read your posts. The clamshell quilting that you stitched, partnered with Gidget, is a great design with your little tumblers. I've thought about using a design ruler with my midarm, but I didn't know how a person manages the quilt plus the ruler. You don't hold it in your teeth, do you? You obviously have it down to perfection!

Your tumbler is so cute - love the clamshell quilting you did on it. Hehe doing Pam's sewalong.. I haven't had a chance to start yet (let alone get the blocks around the wrong way!) and found my box with her last unfinished sewalong blocks in it today - maybe I should be thinking about those first!. Your red and white is going to be amazing, good on you tackling that one again!!

You're making another tiny Burgoyne Surrounded!!!! Wow - you go girl!!! I really like the R/W version - not as much as BSSG, but then that's no surprise, right? I admire your ability to work with just two fabrics too - I just can't seem to do that. I start shaking, and then drooling, and next thing you know, I'm sitting in a corner singing nonsense songs to myself and staring at non-existant things on the wall!!!!
