In the home stretch...

...with the little quilts. Won't we all be glad when this is over!?!
I decided to post the "finishes" on this batch, even though the one in the middle won't be finished for a while. It is being hand quilted, but the others are done!

This was the "before" shot.
I can't put into words the euphoria I feel over getting these little quilts finished.

I haven't shared the finishes on the most recent two, so here you go.
This was Lori's (humblequiltsblog) Midwinter Blues SAL. It is finish #22 this year.

You can click any of these photos for a closer view of the quilting

Here we have finish #23. This sweet 9-patch was made using 9-patches made by my Mom. They  were leftover from one of her quilts made many years ago.

I hadn't planned on quilting feathers in this. I thought it might be a little over the top for a humble 9-patch. But I tried out my original plan in one block and I did NOT like it.The quilt sat for a couple of days while I pondered and debated. Then I thought, "Who am I kidding--I WANT to do feathers on it!" So I did.                                                   These two styles of feathers are different from what I usually do. I tried them out on one of the Mystic Basket blocks (in my last post), and I liked them, so I put them all over this quilt.

This is my LAST BATCH of little quilts that need quilting. Three are really mini (the Mariner's Compass is 3"--not the whole quilt, just the compass), one is small and the other three are more wall hanging size.  Haven't basted these yet--maybe I will get to it this weekend. I am so much more likely to get quilting if the pile of quilts are basted and ready. If I finish all of these it will make 31 little quilts quilted this year!
Only one from this group was a SAL--Lisa Bongean's 10th anniversary SAL. I didn't add the last couple of rounds because I knew it would be too big to hang in the place I had for it.

This last photo is all because of Paulette (Sweet P Quilting and Creations blog). I blame credit her. She has had a few posts lately of the little pillows she has been making as bowl fillers. Her most recent is here.
She pointed out to me that I could use little leftover blocks to make some and that was all it took. I put all of these together yesterday using little bits of quilts that hadn't made the cut--and I also copied her idea of using Cheri's (quiltsbycheri blog) recent Facebook little basket quilt pattern to make a couple. There are definitely some seasonal themes here. I used what I had on hand. Thanks for the inspiration, Paulette!

Until next time,
Janet O.

  3. You may be getting tired of working on and posting these quilts, Janet, but I am NOT tired of seeing them. Every time I look I notice more. Your feathers in the 9-patch are perfect. And that little herringbone basket is adorable. I must give Cheri's baskets a try soon.

  4. You should do one of those smile box things for a blog post where readers can click through and see all the miniatures one after the other.

  9. I especially love that little 9-patch quilt with the blocks made by your mom. That is a real treasure! The little pillows are a perfect accessory for a great wooden bowl, and the herringbone basket really speaks to me. I'll need to go look up Cheri's pattern, so primitive and cute. It sounds like you will have finished all your little quilts in another week or two, and I suspect that will be both a good feeling and also a bit daunting as you'll just have the really large ones facing you.

  11. I can't even imagine how great it must feel to have all those little quilts closing in on the finish line. I was just sorting through a bag of orphan blocks yesterday, wondering what I could do with them--bowl fillers--perfect!! If I finish quilting my Memory Bouquet, I'm going to reward myself by making some!

  13. Good Morning, again I so enjoy reading your blog. Finishing 31 mini's is awesome and each one is a treasure. Using your mom's blocks (patches) is so precious. The feathers just so belong in them. This little mini will have so many memories attached to it. I flipped over to Sweet P's blog and the woolie basket is darling. Making pillows from blocks is a great idea, and collecting them into a bowl is a nice thing to display them.

  19. As always I love your mini quilts, especially the mid winter blue one resonates with me, not sure why. Feathers on simple nine patches make it special! Really love the tiny baskets in the corners of the unquilted basket mini, your ability to be so precise amazes me. Those cute little pillows have been sitting in my head and now they are popping up on your blog as well, the temptation is getting to me, slowly but surely....and because I found the perfect vessel for them this week!

  20. I never get tired of seeing your little quilts, and your quilting is just beautiful. But, I can't stop looking at those little pillows. I don't know why I didn't think of them before. I have baskets sitting here empty just waiting for one (or more) of those. I've got to check my orphan blocks and try one. Oh, and your feathers on the nine patches are perfect.

  21. The completion of all those quilts is mind blowing. Each one is so unique and beautiful and spectacularly pieced, i.e a 3" mariner's compass, unbelievable! I love the feathers in your humbled nine patch. It really looks awesome. One of the best.

  22. I'm still hoping some of your finishing mojo juice is going to make its way to my house. The feathers on the nine patch are beautiful--glad you listened to your inner voice and quilted with the feather. Those smalls in your bowl are awesome!

I love the Amish baskets of course, and I'm just amazed at the difference your quilting made to that sweet little nine patch! You're right - it was calling for those feathers. 28. Good on you to use up leftover units from your Mom's project. Makes that quilt extra special. I don't see anything wrong about feathers being used here. I remember you putting together the snow folks. Loved it then and even more so now. I'll bet your have more basting pins then will fit in their storage container! Enjoy the day, Sandi
