This, That, and The Other (and this, again)

THIS...

...is what I did while I still had my Kim Diehl fabrics out. She designed this for a recent quilt cruise project. No, I didn't go, but Michelle did and she loaned me the pattern after she made hers. I had seen Kim's when I took her class last Fall, and I am happy to now have my own. Thanks, Michelle!

The scraps from the above project made some great little ornaments. I haven't made these for a little while and it was fun to do them again. I really like the pineapple in these fabrics. Think I'll have to make more--someday.

That...

...is my version of Pam Buda's Nabby's Dowry SAL under Gidget's needle. Finally getting it quilted up for grandchild #5. DD#1 does not want typical baby quilts, and I am more than happy to oblige.  : )
Can you see my FMQ sample from my first class hanging above my machine? That is to encourage me. When I feel like I am not doing a good job of quilting, I can glance up and remember that I have come a long way.

The Other...
...recent activity in my sewing room has been quilting and binding these two little quilts. On the left is my "Bowties in Plaid" (aka Baby Bowties), made from thrift store shirt fabrics, and on the right is the little quilt I made replicating one of Kathie Holland's creations (still nameless). The fabrics were donated by Kathie and I made the top quickly, but I stalled on the quilting.
I got them finished in time for...
...this.
I visited the local miniature quilt guild again. I had a few more quilts this time than when I did a trunk show last year, and I didn't have to borrow back any that I had gifted in order to have enough. This was a display only, not a presentation, and that took a lot of the pressure off.
This guild is such a great bunch of gals. What a fun evening! If I was ever tempted to join a guild, this would be the one! Thanks, ladies!

Now I need to get busy on those wool applique projects I am  finding every 30 days or so on a couple of blogs. (I worked really hard there not to say BOM--you know, those things I DON'T do).

Until next time,
Janet O.

  2. A feature display....congrats! They recognize good work and like what you do! That is enough to keep me happy. The mini bow ties is a favorite. I like your motivating fmq sampler.....good reminder of where we started and how far we have come. Good idea!

  3. The new Kim Diehl quilt is my new favorite.lol The baby quilt looks happy and bright, love the colors. And last but not least I love seeing all the little quilts displayed together. It gives me a chance to see the scale of each compared to the others. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Oh my, a miniature quilt guild? How awesome! And look at all those minis ... you are THE rock star of miniature quilts, my friend!

  5. I love everything, of course, but the pineapple ornament especially caught my (bleary) eye. Reminded me of some Amish quilter gone rogue. LOL Remember when Amish quilts were all the rage? The Kim Diehl applique is a favorite, too. I really like the different borders - so much more interesting than using the same size strips in a consistent placement. As long as it all works out at the end, why not? Wonder how that would work on a larger quilt? Congratulations on your encore performance at the miniature quilt guild. I'm wowed to see it at a distance; it must have been very inspiring to them to see it up close and personal.

  6. I like your Kim Diehl designed piece very much. The wool applique looks very good. The little bow tie quilt sweet done in the shirt plaids. And your display of miniature quilts....very impressive. I didn't realize that your program had been for a guild specializing in miniatures. That put the pressure on for sure.

  9. Love your little Kim Diehl quilt - I always love everything that she designs. Great display of small quilts - I bet the guild really enjoyed all of that eye candy! Glad to hear that you are staying strong and not participating in any BOMs - LOL!!!!

  10. All the little quilts are so cute! I love Kim's fabrics--they seems to add a lot of movement as well as color. I just attended a Handi-quilter class and the instructor suggested hanging a sampler like yours for ideas as you stitch.

  11. Your display of your miniatures is not tiny in anyway. It's a huge WOW factor! I like the fact that you've kept your first MQ practice piece. It does help to remind ourselves of how far we travelled in our quilting adventures.

  13. I like your idea of having a wall hanging of early quilting practice. One must remember how much one has improved over time rather than focus on how far from perfect one's current quilting it.

Love the mini pineapples as always...

  17. Love seeing your mini quilt display - each one is a treasure! After seeing a very large quilt done in 2" bow ties (think it was on the Primitive Gatherings site) I am drawn to yours - much more doable size but I am betting your bow ties are even smaller:-) fascinated with seeing your Sweet Sixteen set up - wish I had the room.

  18. Such fun to see what you've been working on! The little plaid bow ties and the little pinwheels are both quite charming, as ever with your work. The display is so professional and delights the eye, it is more than enough to amuse the membership without you needing to make a big nerve wracking presentation. I enjoyed seeing the quilt on Gidget with all the colorful pin caps, LOL!

But remember, I am going to be president one day!! I love, love, love the pineapple ornament in the Kim Diehl fabrics!! And the display looks almost as good as the real thing!! 23. Everything in this post is just wonderful! I love the baby quilt! Are you expecting a new grand baby or is she or he already here? I love the Kim Diehl pattern. Your fabric choices are always so perfect. I have a small appliqué project I need to get started on and choosing the fabrics has me stalled at the moment. Awesome seeing all your minis on display!

  39. Good Afternoon, Ms Janet. I love the brightness of your baby quilt, you #DD will love the sharpness of the purple. Purple is one of my favorite colors. I really like opening your blog, you always have such a nice photo on your state. I have never been to the west coast (up that close) to the mountains. Just seen smaller ones on the east coast.. Hope everything is going well with the adoption, saying prayers for a successful result. Have a Blessed Week.

  41. That is an amazing collection of little quilts you have there my friend!!! Love seeing them all displayed like that - very creative display as well :) And that pineapple mini ornament just sparkles with color! Your KD quilt is lovely. You know I'm usually such a bright color person, but I'm in love with the warm colorful fabrics you've used in this. Very much in her style and colors. I'm so disappointed that we won't get to have her teach at our guild this fall, but I've got her book and plan to make one of her quilts anyway. Yours have definitely inspired me!

  42. Pam Buda is coming to our Sunshine Guild soon. I've made one of her projects and will certainly take her workshop that I believe is the first part of 2016. Your mini quilts present well the way you've arranged them. Sandi
