Baby Bow Ties, Baby Bunny, and stuff.

Haven't posted for a while, because I haven't stitched much. I put my sewing machine away a week or so before Christmas and haven't done much with it since I got it out after Christmas.
I did finally get the top for this little Bow Tie quilt assembled. It is made entirely from repurposed shirts.
The bow ties finish at 1" and the inner border is 1/4" wide. I did foundation paper piece the bow ties. I only repeated one bow tie fabric. Can you spot it?

Part of my holiday was spent watching over the grandbunny. My grandkids got a dwarf lop-earred bunny for Christmas, so I got to take care of it while they visited their other grandparents for 5 days. Isn't she cute?
Her name is Honey, but I usually called her Bunny Foo-Foo. I think she misses me.

Let's see, have I done anything else?
Oh, yes--these 4-patch blocks were made from my "leftover parts" bowl early last year and I finally decided on a setting square color and got them cut. Haven't stitched anything together yet. I want to bind it in red or purple for some pizzazz.
These blocks seemed huge after making the bow ties. They will finish at 2".

I guess I could also share my very slow progress on my "Stars in the Garden" I'm using 1/2" hexies, so it is larger (yes, larger) than the original. And I finally settled on a background fabric from Primitive Gatherings and got it ordered just before Christmas.
This sees very little action because I don't love doing hexies, but I love this quilt, so I talk myself into working on it now and then.

Many bloggers are posting their resolutions for the year ahead, and planning out which BOM programs, mystery quilts, linky parties, and SALs they will do. So I will follow suit (though I usually don't do resolutions).

Quilting Goals for 2015
1. Work on the UFOs I neglected last year.

2. Avoid signing up for BOM programs and try to resist SALs (except a couple of doll quilts, maybe).

3. Don't do mystery quilts.

4. Hmmmm, I guess if I don't do any of the items in #2 & #3, I won't be doing linky parties, either.

5. Keep plenty of dark chocolate in the sewing room. Even if I fail at the others, I think I can manage this one!

Until next time, when hopefully I will have more to share,
Janet O.

  2. Crazy lady with those PP bowTies! I can't tell which one unless it's the pink you switched vertically to horizontal on the squares. Do I call you Linky Party Pooper? Wishing many UFO Finishes for you in 2015!

  3. That Bow tie quilt is just so adorable! I can't see the duplicate fabric ... maybe I'm not fully awake yet. ;-) I'm loving the Stars in the Garden ... that's from Primitive Quilts and Projects, right? What issue (hoping it's one I have) ... I love hexies and I love that quilt.

  4. Such a cute little bunny. :) Love those tiny bow ties! Those are soooo tiny but that is what I expect from you. I don't see how you do it. I also love your hexies, that will be beautiful when finished. I enjoy working on my hexies while watching tv with the family and such.

  5. I say it is the red bow tie in the lower corner and again in the top row. Please don't send the bunny as a prize......she is cute, but I know they duplicate quickly like my scraps! I love the bow tie quilt.....I am still amazed at the wonderful ones you make. #4 is the perfect goal....chocolate makes everything better.

  7. It's the red in the bottom left corner, and the second one from the top right corner.

Love, love your resolutions (and always your projects), though I would add one more. .

#6. If my creative muses tell me to break any of the above resolutions, I will listen to them.

And consider yourself one of my muses, Janet! Your projects are so lovely and inspiring. I'm looking forward to see what you do in 2015.

  8. Happy New Year! I love your list - especially the Chocolate and the no mystery quilts. I don't do those either after getting burned once.
I love your stars. The mix of colors and patterns are amazing.
Really cute bow tie quilt and the 4patch too. I just love love doll quilts.
The honey bunny is adorable. Does it like to be petted?

  9. Looks like you repeated the red in the lower left of the quilt picture. Many mini's in your collection.

  10. What a cute little quilt. I think it’s the red in the top and bottom rows.
Like you I love the way hexes look but just don’t enjoy making them.

  12. I can see why the 2" four patches seem huge. Those bowties are precious! Love the plaids. And your Stars in the Garden is going to be beautiful. I've been tempted to start that one, too. I got a chuckle of most of your goals being NOT to do things. Good luck!

  13. HI, your photos on your home page are always so inviting. The snow on the mountains and the sun coming from the trees are awesome. Love your bow tie quilt, I just finished the top of my patriotic bow tie yesterday. I will send you a photo on your personal page. It will go to the local Veterans Home here in Maryland. Sandi had a bunny when she was young, the @#@# ate up her good leather boots, lol, watch out they love to get into things. lol. Your hexies will be a beauty, you do such great work with all those little items. God Bless, have a great New Year.

  14. LOL!! Dark chocolate in the sewing room!! My fav!! With mint if possible!! :-)) And I personally know for a fact that bow-tie quilt is teenie, tiny, teeny!! And Janet, I think the duplicate bow-tie is the red plaid, top row 4 over from the left and the first bow-tie on the bottom row!! And Bunny Foo Foo is so cute!! Stars in the Garden is fab-boo, fab-boo!!

  15. I smiled when I saw your "grand bunny" Honey made the blog cut :) She says to tell you she does miss you and that you will always hold a fond place in her heart!
I had no idea you were working on the little bow tie quilt. So adorable with the old shirt fabrics!
But I must say, my favorite is the little leftover four patch. Such a unique and striking color combination...just beautiful!

  17. Oh my goodness...those bow ties!!! LOVE!!!! I think your goals are spot on...might have to borrow them to keep me in line. :)

  18. I enjoyed the little puzzle bow tie quilt game! It took me several minutes of staring at it before I decided that it must be the red plaid with the white pinstripe in it that is the duplicate. Am I right? Grandbunny is so sweet!

  19. Cute bunny - cute sewing and cute planning to sew! I couldn't find the double up unless it was one fabric turned on its side? Interesting to see your goals Janet- I struggle with how to find the balance between joining in with others in blogland but not getting too carried away with joining in everythig that's on offer!! And oh! have I commented on the size of your blocks - phew!!

  20. I'm glad you put an addendum in #2! Love your quilts and Bunny Foo-Foo is so cute!

  21. I like the one about chocolate! I can't find the repeat in your first picture either. Good job hiding that. You are amazing working on such tiny pieces. I do love following you.
    Hugs

  22. I love all of your little quilts. I have the Stars in my Garden on my list. Your blocks are so cute....and tiny.

  23. I spotted the duplicate red blocks so maybe the old eyes are getting better LOL and phooey on cataract surgery. Love the little bow ties - I guess that isn't a size where you'd want to have the center be a square and make inset seams with the background and the bows, huh? Whoops...I shouldn't give you any ideas - you'd probably take it up as a challenge for yourself. LOL Your grandbunny is sooo cute - just a little fluffer-nutter. I thoroughly agree with your resolutions. Chocolate is good; too cold for ice cream which is better.

  24. Love your resolutions, especially the chocolate, think I might need to adopt that one too!

  25. Your miniatures are amazing! Chocolate in the sewing room sounds like a goal I need to add to my list

  26. Love your bowtie quilt. What a cutie! I like you're list of dos and don't for 2015. I, too, am trying to stay away from BOMS and SAL. I've got so many things that I've been waiting to make that I'm hoping not to be distracted by the online projects.

  27. The bunny is so sweet! We had a pet bunny for 7 year, she was friends with the cats too. The little bow ties are cute, great to have shirt plaids in that small scale.
    I hope you have a great 2015!

  28. Ah, my friend, now THAT'S a list that is DOABLE!!! Good thinking :) Love your sweet little bow ties! And Bunny Foo-Foo - could anything be more adorable???

  29. I spy a second red bow tie :). How cute is that bunny? My niece is taking her bunny to college with her, lol. Sweet little projects, especially the fabrics for your hexie project. Chuckling at your 2015 list!

  30. Your list makes me laugh - pretty straight forward! I've been working on bow ties too - but they are 3" finished - I used them as leaders/enders and decided to pull them out one day when I was skype sewing with a friend. I have to say that I like yours better! And, I'm with you - don't love making hexies. but I LOVE that pattern that you are working on. Bunny foo foo is too cute!

  31. I love love love your tiny bowties... they are so sweet!
    As is bunny foo foo!
Good luck with your goals for 2015. I should have put a "eat more chocolate" goal on my list...smart woman!

  32. Okay . . . you can still link up to the design wall post, to the slow stitching post, to the reading post, to the feline friday post (just show the darling bunny!!), and the monthly hexi post! See, I'm such a help!! *grin* :)

  33. Took me a minute to find the repeated fabric in your bow tie quilt - that's a sweet one! I vote for purple binding on the 4-patch quilt. Looks like you made a good choice on your background fabric for the hexie star quilt - I've been working on a new hexie project myself - need to share a picture or two soon. Cute little bunny - I'm sure the Grands love her! OK - funny thing about dark chocolate. I've discovered that eating it really effects my sleep (in a bad way) and I actually get light-headed when I eat too much, and my eye twitches - weird, huh? So I'm sticking to milk chocolate which has none of those side effect - problem solved! LOL

  34. drooling over those tiny ties....it's a fave pattern of mine and plaid ones are gorgeous! i just made a stack of 3.5" blocks and that's small enough for me....very very nice!

  35. I love that bow tie mini! Do you draw out your own paper piecing patterns? Bunny Foo Foo is adorable! It would have been very hard to part with her. Looks like your on your way to a productive 2015!

    ReplyDelete
  36. You go with that hexie project...Is it English Paper Piecing? Way too much work for me...give me HSTs any day! Amazing what you can do with a few inches of fabric Janet! Cute Bunny. I get to see them at the County Fair when I go. They are so very soft and sweet. I like your 2015 goals, but can't see you resisting a SAL...

  37. Your post made me laugh. Thanks for that and have a good 2015.

  38. I'm so glad to see we both survived the holidays!! More YOU than me, it was pretty quiet around my place.

Looks like you are off to a great start in the new year with all the cuteness I am seeing. LOL, yes, I imagine 2" does seem large after that amazing bow tie!

That little bunny is also nearly as cute as your sweet little hexies…..my oh my…..I LOVE them!!

I also want to steal your list…..yes….I MUST follow THE LIST!!!!
